Amtrak Service of Legal Documents

The creation of Amtrak was the first time the U.S. government directly funded passenger rail transportation (although land concessions were granted to railroads in the 19th century to advance the completion of a transcontinental line). Amtrak received a forty million dollar grant from Congress, and an additional hundred million dollars in state-guaranteed loans were approved. Throughout the rest of the 20th century, Amtrak received hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds each year to make up for operational deficits. Amtrak owns or leases its stations and has its own repair and maintenance facilities.
